The Problem: When I was working out on my own my workouts lacked Intensity and typically consisted of the same lack of exercises. This routine did not produce any significant results and I had no desire to keep pushing myself. I was not satisfied with how I felt about myself - I felt soft and had no energy.
What did we do: Alex Introduced me to proper exercise mechanics and movements that helped me get visible results while staying injury free. He knew way more than I knew myself. He used a wide range of exercise that targeted my whole body and kept my workouts interesting. This was all despite me having pre-existing spondylolisthesis and a meniscus tear in my right knee.
The Results: Overall, I look better, feel better, and have crazy amounts of energy that were not there when I started. I'm more motivated now to keep pushing to new levels than when I started.
The Problem: I lost 20lbs on my own after retiring, however, I was unable to put on any muscle and repeatedly injured myself while trying to do so. I didn't know the correct form for certain exercise and the diet changes I need to make to gain muscle. I was frustrated with always being sore and hurt - and still not gaining muscle! Furthermore, the pain in my shoulder would make it hard to sleep, especially on my side.
What did we do: Alex introduced a new style of training that gave a greater stimulus to my muscles to grow. He also examined my shoulder and created a plan to eliminate my pain.
The Results: My wife and children tell me I look great!
Since working with Alex I have: Improved my overall conditioning, lost more fat, strengthened my shoulders, arms, chest and legs, felt better and slept better, and become so much stronger (including a 300lb Barbell Deadlift).
I'm so happy with my results that my wife now trains with Alex too!
The Problem: I’d never used a personal trainer before. But, faced with the big milestone of turning 60, I decided to give it a try. I met Alex Shaw for a complimentary discussion when I joined the gym. We talked about my goals and challenges and I felt comfortable talking with Alex. My goal was to set a course for a long, healthy life in my golden years, and get ready for a few pool parties in the summer. The problem was that I had a stagnant approach to working out – hit the gym, same routine, same weight, same results. My conversation with Alex and my comfort level with him convinced me to take the leap.
What did Alex do: For me, working with Alex has been a great experience with real results. Alex is positive and motivating. He creates workout plans that are results oriented and challenging – increasing the reps and weight much more than I ever would have on my own, and varying the workout plans to change things up and keep them interesting. Alex clearly explains the right form to maximize benefits and avoid injury. And, he measures results. For example, in one series of workouts we increased the total weight I was lifting in a series of reps by 60%.
The Results: Now I feel stronger, have more energy, and enjoy keeping up with my workouts. I’m confident that I’m on the right path for my health and well-being. Plus, my girlfriend complemented me on my progress, and we’ve had fun at the pool parties. That’s a nice reward and a motivator.
Thank you, Alex!
The Problem: My golf game was not where I wanted it to be. I was not able to hit the shots I wanted and when I went to compete against friends, colleagues, and business associates I would be out of breath on the back 9. This resulted in a dramatic reduction in performance during the second half of my round. Also, my weight had crept up to a place where I was uncomfortable with it, I needed to lose 30-40lbs.
What did Alex do: Alex was careful to explain each step of his process and ensure I had full understanding before proceeding. The diet and nutrition advice was simple yet effective. The exercise routine created a foundation of strength and movement before moving toward more golf-specific exercises.
The Results: I'm very satisfied with where I am now. I have lost over 25lbs in 4 months while becoming stronger and more flexible. The increase in strength has forced me to adjust my clubbing during golf as I was hitting everything too far. Also, I now workout on my own in addition to my sessions with Alex as I see the benefits of re-enforcing and practicing what we have covered in-session. My wife and I are now looking forward to our cruise later this month
The Problem: In the last 5 years I had started change shape - and not in the right way. I wanted to get back in shape, at least enough that I would reduce the random aches and pains that creep up as we get older, and I wanted a plan that would keep me healthy through my next 40 years. I sought out a trainer to help me get back in shape. However, I was concerned that a trainer would just give me the standard workout cycle, similar to what I had always done. The workouts I did when I was younger didn't really address my current needs & issues. I was having a hard time figuring out a good set of workouts after I entered my 40s.
What did Alex do: Alex tailors my workouts to my needs, working on things like posture, back, and hip issues that have crept up from working in front of a computer for 20+ years. He has also helped craft a workout plan that I can continue to use for many more years. Alex also helped with the workout plan but also helps answer questions about nutrition and other factors outside the gym, like sleep, that are important to long-term strength and health.
The Results: I have trimmed 4 inches off my waist and over an inch from my hips. I'm a numbers geek and have kept measurements dating way back and this is as small as my waist has been since high school. I've lost 13 pounds in 6 months while building lean muscle and I'm beating personal records for lifts like squats and chest press.
My wife also trains with Alex and we compare notes and he really does tailor the workouts to each of our needs and goals. I'd recommend Alex to anybody looking to get back in the swing of things, or get started working out for the first time.
